Song of the Summer?

Mariah got me thinking:  what is the "song of the summer" (and perhaps, what is a "song of the summer?"  I'll define it as "an awesome song that happens to come out during the summer).

Here i'll collect my (running list of) track selections, with more info (and downloads!) where possible:

 > Daft Punk - "High Life (Mano remix)" (info)
 > The Black Ghosts - "Any Way You Choose To Give It (Playgroup Remix)" (info)
 > Eve "Tambourine" (info)
 > DJ Khaled "We Takin Over (Feat. Akon, T.I., Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Baby & Lil Wayne)" (info)

More coming...what are yours?

The Ibiza Voice Podcast

The good (Gabriel Ananda, Sven Vath, Cabanne, Trentemoller, Ellen Allien, Troy Pierce, Michael Mayer, etc) with the cheesy. Focus on the good.

Black Ghosts 30min Mix

Since I really can't get over how great the Playgroup remix of The Black Ghosts' "Any Way You Choose To Give It" (seriously, gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it)...I am currently excited to check out this 30-minute mix by the Black Ghosts (via Discobelle).

Of course, in my cluelessness, i'm not sure if I dig the Playgroup sound more than that of The Black Ghosts...but still.

Also (very) worth listening to from Discobelle is this Cousin Cole "Mixin It Up Live for Discobelle" mix...

Charles Nelson Reilly RIP

"Tinsel and Rot salutes the life of Charles Nelson Reilly, who died last Friday at the age of 76."

I spent many a nights watching Mr. Nelson Reilly through the static of childhood summers of terrible cottage reception on various iterations of "Hollywood Squares," (though, it seems I am making that up, but I know I seemed to see him everywhere, and I don't think I ever watched the Match Game)... wondering how he could be so awesome (and where he got those glasses)...

Miles: Sneaker-Freaker

My feet live vicariously through Miles. Outside of a recent trip to some back-alley, down a flight of stairs, beneath the fake dumpster sneaker boutiques in NYC with Albert (which, admittedly, resulted in a sweet pair of Vans and a "hot" pair of black and gold Adidas)...i've more or less missed, for one reason or another, the sneaker-freaker movement. I can appreciate a classic pair of Air Force Ones with the best of them...but buying them, boxing them, hoarding them...I've never done it (not to say I don't want to).

But MILES, on the other hand...he's got no choice.

Baby Shoe Addiction

Baby shoes are seemingly exploding with hipness (note the cammo Etnies in the upper left)...as we witnessed, yet again, at the new hip-enough-to-be-pricey and trendy-enough-to-be-in-the-suburbs Baby Style store near us.

We ended up getting Miles a $36 pair of green Tip-Toey-Joeys (over a pair of black-and-white checkered baby-Vans):

So, yeah, Miles has more (and more cooler) pairs of shoes than I do...and he can't even walk. But at least, in that sense, he keeps his kicks in pristine condition.

The Singularity Institute

Listeningtowords recently uploaded a mother-load of "singularity" talks, featuring Bill McKibben ("Being Good Enough"), Cory Doctorow ("Singularity or Dark Age"), John Smart ("Searching for the Big Picture: Systems Theories of Accelerating Change,") and Ray Kurzweil ("The Singularity: A Hard or Soft Takeoff?")...amongst other.

This is fantastic.

Burial - Unite

Burial is back to producing untouchably amazing, scary, bleak, haunting, fantastic tunes (his/her/its album last year is, perhaps, one of the best albums dare I say...ever?).  Actually, this is probably old, but...new to me:

Burial - Unite (available on Soul Jazz Records' "Box Of Dub")

Also via the latest Mary-Anne Hobbs' Breezeblock on BBC-Radio1.

A rat named Remy

A rat named Remy (Disney/Pixar's upcoming movie, Ratatouille).  Next up, a hyperintelligent and anxious dust-bunny named Otis.

Miles to go before I sleep

So, this weekend I am donning my "solo dad" hat (?) and am in sole-charge of the Lynch compound while Kat wrestles muskies in Minnesota.

Despite my fears about what may happen being in charge of both Miles and Remy & Otis, I'm looking forward to it.  I'm thinking of taking Miles to the park one day, and the zoo the next.

It feels so great to have plans like that.

CLAMPANTSumblr.com

In part because of the seemingly free-form coolness of Tumblr, in part because of seeing Eric's in action...i've set up my own Tumbleblog:

CLAMPANTSumblr.com

(or, the feed is here)

I think I really like it...it's like the completely unnecessary step between Twitter and Clampants that will make my life complete.  I think I'll use it as a place to dump the various things I run across...but are too weird and small to justify (?) blogging (?) about them (?)...and Clampants will be reserved for awesome things.  Like this.  Or updates about my new shoes.  Or how much I bought shredded wheat for.
