Chard and Shallots

Happenstancedly occuring within shouting distance of EarthDay, Kat and I have signed up with Boston Organics to receive a box of locally grown organic vegetables (2/3 the box) and fruits (1/3) delivered to us (due in part to some glowing reviews from the folks on the Boston-area Chowhounds discussion board). I'm eagerly looking forward to our first delivery this coming week...and the holiday-esque surprise of what will be inside (will it be chard? tangelos? shallots? leeks? parsnips?), though, Kat informs me, it's not really a surprise as there's a "spoiler" list on their website. Boo.

Anyways, it seems to be a great organization full of extremely nice and helpful folks...so, yeah, i'm psyched. I wonder if i'll miss the pesticidey apples, the land-raping bananas, and the hippo-killing strawberries (google it) from Shaw's.

Hey, awesome -- Brad and I did the Boston Organics thing for quite-some-time last year. I love that organization. Their service is unbelievable, just wicked reliable and configurable. It was a great challenge to come up with something to do with garlic flowers (one week) or 3 Hass avocados (another week). They were great about skipping a week if we were going to be gone, etc. and re-kajiggering the fruit versus veggies combination. Such a cool thing.
