Could be worse; "bulge" is more ladylike (less un-ladylike?) than "protuberance." Then again, the usage notes in my dictionary claim that "bulge" is the most unsettling of the various enlargement-related words.

I would have to say "turgid" is the most unsettling of the enlargement-related words. But that might just be me. (Unsettled, I mean. Not turgid. At least...)
